What´s the cost of a dental visit?

Many associate going to the dentist with high costs, and many are surprised by the actual final total on the bill. That's why Blid offers dental treatment at fixed and reasonable prices without surprises, allowing you to feel secure about the final cost.

How Much Does It Cost to Go to the Dentist?

Like most services you purchase, there is a significant variation in prices among providers. In Norway, few people receive refunds through public assistance programs and must therefore pay for dental visits out of pocket at private practices. Until you turn 22, you are entitled to treatment through the public dental health service.

All dental treatments require clean and sterile equipment, advanced machines, various disposable items (gloves, masks, products, etc.), as well as qualified, university-educated practitioners who undergo continuing education and training to ensure that patients receive modern and safe treatment. This means that proper and safe dental care with modern equipment comes at a cost.

However, many patients find that it’s not just the price of the treatment itself that feels expensive, but also the fact that they often end up paying something different than what was listed on the clinic's website. This is primarily due to three reasons:

1. Different Prices for Apparently the Same Type of Treatment:

Many clinics have significant variations in what they charge for seemingly the same type of treatment. For example, the cost for a small filling (1 surface) can differ from a large filling (3 or more surfaces), and some clinics also vary prices based on which tooth it is, such as an incisor or molar. For patients, it can be difficult to know in advance what treatment they need, such as what type of filling is required. Therefore, an examination beforehand is necessary for the dentist to assess and inform you of the needed treatment. Additionally, there are large variations in what a standard examination includes at different clinics. Some call it an annual check-up, others a dental check-up, and some simply call it an examination or examination with cleaning. Always check what an examination includes before booking an appointment. At our clinic, an examination and cleaning include complete diagnostics, mapping, and planning, removal of tartar, and cleaning with AirFlow. Some providers charge extra for teeth cleaning and AirFlow or for X-rays.

2. Extra Add-Ons That Are Required But Not Included in the Price Listed on the Website:

It is a well-known situation that unexpected add-ons are often added that are not included in the treatment price. This can include anesthesia, X-rays, or what many refer to as a "hygiene surcharge." The latter essentially means that all equipment is clean and new, which should be a given and included in the treatment since equipment should always be clean and sterilized. These add-ons create confusion about what you are actually going to pay and often lead many patients to end up paying more than they expected before they arrived, making the experience feel expensive. To make it easy and safe for patients, Blid has chosen to eliminate all add-ons. This means you will never pay extra for X-rays, anesthesia, or hygiene surcharges. We take the necessary X-rays, provide sufficient anesthesia to avoid pain, and, of course, we do not charge a hygiene surcharge—clean and sterilized equipment should be a given.

3.Long Time Between Check-Ups/Examinations:

When you visit a dentist or dental hygienist, we will always provide a recommendation for when you should come back for your next visit. The frequency varies from patient to patient based on their history, oral health, and genetics. Therefore, we give an individual recommendation, which can range from every 3 months to 24 months. With regular examinations of teeth and the oral cavity, we can early identify any emerging issues and provide guidance for the best possible oral health, reducing the risk of future problems. However, if you skip the recommended check-ups, your treatment needs may eventually become larger (and thus more expensive) than they would have been with regular visits. Don’t wait until you have tooth pain to go to the dentist—during your annual check-up, we remove tartar, provide cleaning, offer guidance on your oral health, and monitor the development in your mouth. With regular visits, we can detect problems before they become serious and costly.
