More about the treatment

Surgical Removal of Wisdom Tooth or root

Wisdom teeth are recommended for removal if you have experienced persistent issues with them. Removal of wisdom teeth includes anesthesia and hygiene materials.

At Blid, we can perform surgical removal of wisdom teeth. If the tooth has very complicated root anatomy or other conditions warrant it, we may refer you to a specialist, which may involve different pricing.

Surgical removal of wisdom teeth includes:

  • Anesthesia
  • Surgical removal of the tooth
  • Pain relief tablets if needed
  • Hygiene materials and setup

If your tooth is partially under the gum, inflammation in the area is common, and cavities can also develop. This happens because it’s difficult to clean properly around the tooth, allowing bacteria to accumulate. When bacteria (plaque and food debris) linger for too long around the tooth and gum, inflammation occurs. This can be painful, and you shouldn’t endure pain or infection in your mouth for long.

You may experience swelling in the area, and in some cases, fever. It can also become difficult to open your mouth. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it’s time to have the tooth removed. In rare cases, antibiotics may be prescribed to reduce the infection around the tooth.

After the tooth is removed, swelling is common, and some may experience pain and slight bleeding in the area. You will receive a bite compress and pain relief tablets from us. The bite compress should be held in place for 20 minutes post-procedure to stop any bleeding from the wound. It is crucial that you do not eat or drink for 2-3 hours after the procedure to allow the wound to begin healing. Avoid strenuous physical activity for the first day.

You will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment to check on the area and to remove stitches (if we used sutures) after 7-10 days.

Ofte stilte spørsmål om undersøkelsen

How often do I need a dental check-up?

The most common recommendation is once a year, but this is adjusted based on your history and needs. During your first visit, you will receive a recommendation for your next check-up, which can range from 6 to 24 months. This depends on factors such as previous cavity history, other treatment needs, tartar buildup, and whether there are early signs of decay that need to be monitored. The recommendation we provide is always tailored to the individual.

Why should I use dental floss or interdental brushes?

When cavities are starting to form, we always recommend using dental floss. It’s beneficial for preventing gum disease and cavities in between teeth (tooth decay). Gum disease appears as red, bleeding gums and can ultimately lead to tooth loss. Untreated tooth decay can also result in losing teeth. While brushing removes some plaque, it cannot reach between the teeth, where gum disease and decay are common. Therefore, dental floss or interdental brushes are effective tools. We provide guidance and instruction on how to use dental floss and/or interdental brushes, as well as recommend the appropriate sizes during your visits with us.

Should I use a fluoride rinse, and if so, which type?

Fluoride rinses help prevent cavities and strengthen tooth enamel against bacteria and acid attacks. For early signs of decay or treatment needs, we always recommend additional fluoride. Extra fluoride is therefore a preventative measure. It's important to read the label and double-check that the fluoride content is at least the recommended amount of 0.2% NAF. If the fluoride concentration is lower than 0.2% NAF, it can wash away the toothpaste, which has a negative effect."

FAQS

Ofte stilte spørsmål

Do I have to have my wisdom teeth extracted?

Wisdom teeth need to be extracted if they erupt in the wrong position in the mouth and cause problems for other teeth. They should also be removed if you are experiencing pain, inflammation, or large cavities (caries). If you are having pain or issues with your wisdom teeth, we recommend booking an examination so that we can assess whether you should have one or more of your wisdom teeth removed.
