More about the treatment

Thorough teeth cleaning

During a professional teeth cleaning, we remove tartar, plaque, and staining from your teeth, providing a polished and clean feeling. Regular cleaning of your teeth is advisable to maintain good oral health. The treatment includes AirFlow and an ultrasonic scaler, which removes plaque that regular brushing cannot. As part of the treatment, you will also receive guidance on how to best care for your dental health and how to keep that clean feeling for as long as possible.

A teeth cleaning does not replace regular dental check-ups, but it is ideal for those who need or want more frequent professional cleaning of their teeth. If it has been a while since your last visit to the dentist, we recommend scheduling a "full examination and thorough cleaning."

Ofte stilte spørsmål om undersøkelsen

How often do I need a dental check-up?

The most common recommendation is once a year, but this is adjusted based on your history and needs. During your first visit, you will receive a recommendation for your next check-up, which can range from 6 to 24 months. This depends on factors such as previous cavity history, other treatment needs, tartar buildup, and whether there are early signs of decay that need to be monitored. The recommendation we provide is always tailored to the individual.

Why should I use dental floss or interdental brushes?

When cavities are starting to form, we always recommend using dental floss. It’s beneficial for preventing gum disease and cavities in between teeth (tooth decay). Gum disease appears as red, bleeding gums and can ultimately lead to tooth loss. Untreated tooth decay can also result in losing teeth. While brushing removes some plaque, it cannot reach between the teeth, where gum disease and decay are common. Therefore, dental floss or interdental brushes are effective tools. We provide guidance and instruction on how to use dental floss and/or interdental brushes, as well as recommend the appropriate sizes during your visits with us.

What does 'beginning cavity' mean?

A beginning cavity is caries in the tooth enamel (the outermost layer of the tooth). This doesn't necessarily need to be treated as long as it doesn't develop further. The best way to prevent it from developing is to brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, use dental floss daily, and get extra fluoride (fluoride rinse or fluoride tablets). If the cavity becomes so large that it penetrates the tooth enamel, it should be treated.

FAQS

Ofte stilte spørsmål

What is AirFlow?

Airflow is a method of cleaning teeth where we use a mixture of salt, water, and added flavorings that is sprayed onto the teeth. With this technique, superficial stains that can come from the food we eat, as well as coffee, cigarettes, tea, and red wine, disappear. Many people like to think of Airflow as a kind of high-pressure wash for the teeth. Airflow is included in our examination and cleaning (NOK 695), but if you only want Airflow, you can just book a teeth cleaning (NOK 395).

How should I brush my teeth?

There are many different ways to brush your teeth. Two well-known methods for doing it correctly are either using a back-and-forth motion or circular movements. Here is our guide to good tooth brushing: - Hold the toothbrush horizontally along the gum line so that the bristles are in contact with the gums. - The brush should be held at an angle, pointing towards the gum line. - Move the brush back and forth in either a back-and-forth or circular motion on each tooth. - The bristles of the toothbrush should stay in the same spot as you move back and forth. If it hurts, you are brushing too hard. - Remember to brush the chewing surfaces of the teeth, which is the top of the tooth. Then continue to the outside towards the cheek and the inside towards the tongue/palate. - Finish by brushing the inside of your front teeth in both jaws. You can do this best by holding the toothbrush vertically. Good luck with your tooth brushing!

Should I use dental floss?

Dental floss is an effective tool for easily removing plaque and food particles that accumulate between the teeth. A toothbrush cannot reach between the teeth, so it is recommended to supplement your oral care with dental floss to keep your mouth properly clean. The most common place to get cavities is between the teeth, and regular use of dental floss reduces the risk of cavities and other dental issues. During an examination with us, we can certainly show you the proper way to use dental floss.

Is it dangerous to use toothpaste with fluoride?

It is not dangerous to use toothpaste with fluoride, as the amount of fluoride is relatively small. The recommended dosage is 1000-1500 ppm twice daily—this dosage will be indicated on the toothpaste label. Research clearly shows that fluoride toothpaste is effective and is a simple, safe, and beneficial investment for dental health. As long as the toothpaste contains the recommended fluoride dosage, you can use whichever toothpaste you prefer.

How much does an examination cost?

A complete examination and cleaning always costs 995 NOK with us. This applies to both your first visit and future annual check-ups. The examination includes X-rays, a full diagnosis and mapping, removal of tartar - in addition to giving you tips and advice on how to best take care of your own oral health until the next visit.
