We have all been told the importance of dental visits. But how often should you go, and why is it really so important? And how do you know which dentist you belong to? We provide the answers here.

How often should you go to the dentist?

Regular and thorough check-ups with a dentist or dental hygienist can be essential for maintaining good oral health. How often you should visit the dentist varies from person to person, but the most common recommendation is once a year. During a check-up with us, we will provide you with individual advice on when you should return for your next examination.

Why should you go to the dentist?

Check-Ups
By visiting the dentist regularly, you increase the chances of detecting minor damage, cavities, and other oral diseases, allowing for necessary measures to be taken. If you postpone your dental visit for too long, you risk allowing damage and diseases to develop, which can be painful for both you and your wallet.

X-rays
During an examination, the need for X-rays is also assessed. X-rays can more easily reveal diseases in parts of the teeth that are not visible when the dentist looks in your mouth—and that you would not discover yourself. Bitewing X-rays, which are typically used during regular check-ups, provide information about cavities, early cavities, and the condition of existing fillings. Bitewings are used together with what the dentist observes in your mouth to diagnose and create an appropriate treatment plan for you. A panoramic X-ray (OPG) may be necessary for more extensive treatment needs, such as when planning implants or removing wisdom teeth.

Individual Advice
During the examination, you will also receive guidance on how to best take care of your own oral health and how to maintain that clean feeling after a dental cleaning for as long as possible. You will, of course, have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and receive help in evaluating specific measures for your home routine if you are facing challenges.

Thorough Cleaning
Brushing your teeth twice a day and using dental floss or inter-dental brushes can prevent the formation of tartar and plaque on your teeth. Regardless, most people will experience tartar and discoloration because there are areas that are harder to keep clean than others, and because they consume food and beverages with strong coloring agents, such as coffee, tea, and red wine. We assist you with professional teeth cleaning.

During a visit with us, a thorough cleaning of the teeth and oral cavity is included. Here, we remove tartar, plaque, and discoloration. We often use tools like AirFlow and ultrasonic scalers to remove deposits that cannot be removed through regular tooth brushing. If you want or need more frequent cleaning of your teeth, you can book both thorough cleaning and AirFlow as separate treatments with us. If you are unsure, you can ask your dentist or dental hygienist for guidance.

Which dentist do I belong to?

You can freely choose which dentist you want to go to. If you are switching dentists, it can be helpful to inform your previous dentist that you no longer wish to receive appointments from them. You can also request your dental records, which you can provide to your new dentist. This way, the new dentist has the best possible overview of your dental history.
